Professor Ljiljana Vlaški 2009-03-07
Professor Ljiljana Vlaški, from the ORL Department in Novi Sad, spoke on facial palsy in the paediatric population and stressed the significance of rhabdomyosarcoma as a possible cause in those cases. She is seen here with Professor Juraj Koval’, host and organiser of the meeting (right) and Professor Podvinec from Aarau, who presided the round table on facial palsy.
The meeting was extremely interesting due to the fact that many East European centres are now well equipped, that sophisticated skull base surgery and all implants in otology are performed in great numbers, and that education is very intense in all those centres. As an example, the Kiev ORL Department has 265 beds and around 100 physicians, of whom around 30 perform research (see link above). Special kudos to Professor Koval’, who not only presided a memorable meeting with an excellent constructive atmosphere, but also put Košice on the list of very significant otology centres in Europe.
