Under the direction of Professor Rajko Jović, 35 participants had the opportunity to hear lectures from Professors Hiltrud Glanz, Irena Hočevar-Boltežar, Mihael Podvinec and the team of the Novi Sad University ORL Department.

These two traditional courses were held in Novi Sad under the direction of Professor Rajko Jović.Guests were Professors Hiltrud Glanz from Frankfurt and Cesare Piazza from Brescia, instructors and lecturers were Cp. Doctor Dusan Bijelić, Professors Peđa Stanković, Nada Vuković, Dušica Janjević as well as Doctor Danijela Dragićević. The courses were very practice- oriented. Professor Glanz stressed the importance of cooperation between surgeon, anesthetist and pathologist, professor Piazza demonstrated alternatives of immediate reconstruction after tumor ablation in the oropharynx and the neck.

Professor Glanz has been working for six years with the colleagues in Novi Sad and has contributed greatly to the education and further development of endoscopic surgery in Serbia through her  assiduous activities within courses in Laryngomicroscopy and Head and Neck Surgery. M. Podvinec  was honored for his year-long didactic engagement and promotion of international contacts of the ORL Department in Novi Sad. He has also been elected Honorary Member of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Serbia. Both have confirmed their will to continue their work in Serbia.

Professor Joseph Sopko was invited lecturer at the International Voice day on the 16. of April. His lecture on the care of the professional voice has been well received, also because he had taken pains to pronounce it in Serbian. The Serbian specialists presented extremely interesting papers, and M.Podvinec spoke on the early diagnosis of cancer of the larynx. This research has been done by Lecturer Dr. Marcel Kraft in the Aarau Department.

Professor Kurt Tschopp introduced his collaborators, who spoke about the first experiences with tonsillotomy in the Liestal Department.

The history, the pros and cons as well as different techniques (laser, coblation and electrocautery) were presented on videos. The consensus was, that in children with OSAS, but little inflammation, this should be the procedure of choice under 6 years of age.

Professors Joseph Sopko, voice specialist from Basel and Aarau and Mihael Podvinec form Aarau, held lectures at a one-day symposim dedicated to the „Care of the professional voice“.

J. Sopko presented „The picture of the human voice in the stroboscopical examination“, showing, amongst others, rare videos of laryngeal function in players of wind instruments, yodelers and professional singers.

M. Podvinec spoke on new methods of early diagnosis of laryngeal cancer, a study performed in his Department by Lecturer Dr. Marcel Kraft. The Symposium, honoring the International Voice Day, was organised by the Serbian ORL Society and chaired by its President, Professor Vojko Đukić. Very interesting lectures were presented by prominent voice specialists and endoscopic surgeons of the country. The topics mainly concerned new diagnostic tools and operative techniques in the therapy of disorders in professional voice users and recommendations in the care of the professional voice. The University ORL Department in Novi Sad was host to the 4. international Course in laryngomicroscopy with lectures, practical exercise on pig larynxes and demonstrational surgery.

The participation of eight trainees from Macedonia, who were obviously satisfied with the course, was especially noted.

Guest was, for the second time, Professor Daniel Bodmer, newly appointed Director of the University ORL Department in Basel, Switzerland. Further lecturers were Professors Stankovic, Vulekovic and Podvinec. Four participants from Macedonia, Bosnia and Republic of Srpska were present. Obviously, the participants were satisfied with the course, judging from the faces on the final photograph. The next courase is on the 8. and 9. December, 2011 !

Professor Dragan Dankuc was gracious host to the 6th Course in anatomy of the temporal bone and, in continuation, of the 2. Course in Tympanoplasty at the University ORL Depratment in Novi Sad, Serbia.

Professor Harvey Tucker, seen here with his wife and their host, Professor Z. Milutinović from Zemun, held several lectures at the National ORL Meeting in Beograd, Serbia.
